The 12 generation introduced Ceramic Shield and MagSafe, and the 12 Pro Max was the largest phone Apple had made at that point. It is now old enough that repair decisions need a little thought: a £69.99 screen on a phone still worth several hundred is easy, but spending £119.99 on cosmetic back glass is a different question.

At £119.99 this costs substantially more than the screen. The rear glass is bonded to the frame and removed by laser separation, working around the wireless charging coil and camera housing. On a phone of this age, if the back is cracked but the phone works and you are not planning to sell it, plenty of owners reasonably decide to live with it. Five years of daily Lightning connections takes a toll. If the cable has to be held at an angle, or charging stops when the phone moves, we inspect the port first to rule out compacted debris and replace the connector where it is genuinely worn. If there is no message when you send it in, there won’t be one after we’ve repaired it. We make sure of that as standard, and plenty of high-street repairers don’t address it at all.
Does Face ID still work after a screen repair?
Yes. Face ID relies on the TrueDepth camera system, which is separate from the display itself. We preserve your original TrueDepth system where it is undamaged, and we test Face ID before and after the repair so you know it is working when the phone goes back to you.
Is the back glass repair worth doing on a 12 Pro Max?
It’s a bigger job than it looks — the rear glass is bonded and has to be removed with a laser rather than levered off, which is why it costs more than the screen on this model. If the damage is cosmetic and you’re planning to keep the phone a while, it’s usually worth it. If you’re about to trade in, ask us first and we’ll tell you honestly whether it will pay for itself.
How long does a repair take?

Is my phone insured in the post?
Yes, tracked Royal Mail postage both ways with transit insurance up to £750. Postage is included in the price you see above, in both directions.
